Feedback and changes
Feedback from the presentation was:
- To show more the lighting effect created in my lightbox into my presentation drawings.
- To think more indepth about the changing rooms. To go back to Peter Zumthor's Therme Vals and see how he approached his changing rooms.
- Change the lineweights on the lights in the RCP plan
- Add seating to the changing rooms
I relooked into the changing rooms and added a sloped ceiling with a similar design to my lighting box to create a more sensory environment. I also changed the lighting to a red glow to show the temperature change of the hot shower area, something Zumthor similarly did in the Therme Vals.
I reworked lineweights on the RCP floorplan
Added seating
Looking back at Precedents
Looking back at the Therme Vals by Peter Zumthor help inspire how to better design the changing room area.
Materials
I have chosen to go with a timber interior around the pool and for a reinforced concrete around the changing rooms and shop front. I have chosen these materials as they work well with lighting, also were inspired by Peter Zumthors use of materials in the Therme Vals.
Lightbox
Here are some pictures of my finalised lightbox. The idea I was going for was to create pathways of light by cutting the corflute into strips then turning them on its side and glueing it back together.
Ceiling
Different Ceiling patterns to create pathways of light that would give a sensory experience to the user
Starting to design
Rethinking Retail: My shop is a snorkelling shop where you can try on the gear and then test it out in a pool within the shop
starting to add a feature wall similar to my lightbox, creating pathways of light to give a sensory experience
To create an experience thinking about having LCD screens inside the pool where you can choose the environment for where you want to test out the equipment. There is a touch screen pad just before entering the pool where this could happen.
Precedent: Globetrotter Köln
Globetrotter in Köln Germany is a large store which has a pool in the centre which is used for testing scuba gear and kayaking. This is a big influence to my idea of testing out gear in the store environment.
Generator
I have decided to change my spatial generator to Pathways
The definition of a pathway is: "a track that constitutes or serves as a path." or "a way of achieving a specified result; a course of action"
I want to focus on creating a sensory experience with the use of pathway in my design, using lighting to achieve this

Precedent: Therme Vals by Peter Zumthor
Built over the only thermal springs in the Graubunden Canton in Switzerland. The Therme Vals is a hotel and spa in one which combines a complete sensory experience designed by Peter Zumthor.
I love the way Zumthor uses light to create a sensory experience, this is something I want to attain in my design.

Sketch model
A sketch model which is starting to explore my spatial generator (fluid), the form has come out quite organic, almost looks like a piece of coral.
